Complete Guide to Maygood / Mobicool Windows

Article by Rob Smith - Caravans Plus
Read Time: 3 mins

In recent years there has been a large increase of Caravans being produced with Maygood / Mobicool windows. These windows are nearly identical to the Dometic Seitz S4 however the parts are not interchangeable. The number one customer error we see is incorrectly identifying or assuming they have a Seitz window.

How to Identify Mobicool Windows

There are 2 easy ways to establish which type of Caravan Window you have by checking either your existing blade/glazing or your internal blind.

1) Check the top right hand corner of your window blade (when looking from the outside). In some light it may be hard to see but it will say either MOBICOOL or SEITZ / DOMETIC ( Seitz windows are now being branded as Dometic to bring in line with their new marketing campaign)

2) Check your internal blind, or more importantly the clips that connect the blind to flyscreen. The Mobicool will have black clips which a clearly branded, while the Seitz have light grey clips.

How to Determine Window Size

As with all caravans windows and doors the size is determined by the actual cut-out size. In the case of Maygood windows the overall dimensions of the external frame are 30mm larger. This means if you measure your outer frame and it is 530 x 380 you have a 500 x 350 window.

Mobicool Internal Frame Styles

There are now 3 versions of Mobicool internal frames, the original had a white flyscreen and visible mounting screw caps. The newer style has a black flyscreen with concealed fittings (no screw caps). In the most recent release (ABS) the black clip used to join flyscreen and blind together has been replaced with magnetic strips for effortless operation and a seamless finish.

The newer style internal frames are direct replacements for the original internal frames however you will need to order the concealed fittings separately.

Hi Cheryl, Unfortunately they are not available separately - we are only able to source the complete internal frames (including blind and fly screen) for the Mobicool windows.

We want to find Mobicool Windows with ADR approved glass but also the blind/fly screen insert. Does that exist? Is for use in the back of Motorohome where there will be travelling passengers with seat belts.

I have a V-X/BE4. 43R-000518 Mobicool window. The external measurements are 830 x 130. Which by your explanation I have a 800 x 100 window. I need to buy the internal pull up blind and fly screen unit. Do you sell this size ?!

We have Mobicool windows (1250x525) on our Kakoda 2-Up and the problem is that the springs on the blockout blind have come undone and I can't get the little plastic ends off to re-fit the springs - they seem to be indented into the aluminium tube. I hope you can understand what I am getting at. Any suggestions?

take out window frame and take out holding bracket on bottom right side facing back of frame. lift out enough of the roller to use a pair of sidecutters to prise out the rubber grommet. when spring is free from the blind mix up some araldite and smear over inside of grommet where you see the spring indetations. wind the spring fully onto grommet and coat rest of araldite over top of spring. let thoroughly set. wind dlind down to about 60mm from bottom and wind spring 27 revolutions in clockwise direction using pliers and needle nose pliers or similar. place back in groove and secure in place. Guaranteed to work as i have done this top and bottom to 3 out 5 mobicool windows. dont use the other 2

I have Mobicool blinds in my van and need to replace the block out blind. The Why do I have to purchase a whole frame including the insect and block out blinds when I only require the block out blind?

  • comment-avatar

    Arthur

I have replacement clips for my mobicool blinds but can't work out how to remove easily. I prised the first one out but it took ages.

  • comment-avatar

    Theo

To remove the spring. Remove the end spigot (not the spring side) by drilling out the indent. Remove the end using a screw driver. Purchase from Bunnings a 3/8 threaded bar about a meter length. Place this inside the tube. Hold the tube/blind and hit the threaded bar to remove the spring assembly from the tube. This will take some effort but ensure that when using the hammer do not damage the blind which is still partly in the frame. If the spring has let go from the inside cone shaped end re screw on and twitch thin wire around spring to tighten spring to cone. Reassemble spring assembly to tube by using a 50 mm thin socket spanner to fit over the shaft and the end of the socket touches the end cap and drive home. Retention the spring and reassembleto the frame. Only the Caravan industry can get away for selling such a poor designed product and the customer having to purchase a whole frame assembly.

Hi, I have bought, from you guys, the spring loaded handle for the Mobicool blind. Can you provide advice on how to replace the handle? It looks like it should just clip out, but I don’t want to force it and risk breaking anything. The existing handle has lost the little coil spring, hence the new handle. Thanks, Peter
