Thetford's Separation Kit SK260 converts a C260-series cassette toilet into a waterless separation toilet for off-grid touring. Urine and solid waste are directed into separate removable containers, eliminating flushing-water use and reducing demand on the vehicle's water supply.
The kit replaces the existing inner and outer bowl assembly and includes a new seat and lid, 7.5L urine tank, 7L solids bucket, urine hose assembly and the control components required for the conversion. The bowl includes a blade that covers the solids opening when closed, while the urine tank and solids bucket can be removed separately for emptying.
Conversion involves removing the existing flush-water hose and electric valve, blanking the vehicle water supply and replacing the reed-switch and control-panel components. The Australian installation manual provides the conversion procedure for C263 installations and should be reviewed before starting.
Separation toilets keep liquid and solid waste apart, so each section is emptied separately.
Urine waste should be emptied into a regular toilet, RV dump point, or approved toilet waste facility.
Solid waste is collected in a liner bag. Once sealed properly, it can generally be disposed of with general waste where local rules allow. This is similar to other sealed hygiene waste such as nappies, incontinence products, sanitary waste or dog waste bags.
Do not place waste bags in drop toilets, pit toilets, dump points, recycling, green waste or compost bins.
When in doubt, check the local rules before disposal.
If the Thetford drying agent is unavailable, use a clean, dry, untreated carbon material such as natural sawdust, fine wood shavings, or untreated wood-fibre animal bedding. These are commonly available from pet stores, hardware stores and garden centres.
This helps absorb moisture, cover the solids and reduce odour between emptying. Avoid scented, clumping, treated or fertilised products.
