The Thetford S220CS Separation Toilet offers a modern alternative to traditional cassette toilets, designed specifically as a direct replacement for the Thetford C220 model. With growing interest in sustainable and low-maintenance sanitation systems, this separation toilet provides a practical upgrade for caravan owners seeking off-grid convenience and improved hygiene.
Unlike conventional toilets, the S220CS features a specially designed bowl that separates liquid and solid waste into separate containers. The urine tank can be removed and emptied independently, allowing the solid waste bin to remain in place - making routine maintenance quicker and more discreet. Both waste tanks are made from recycled plastic, supporting environmentally conscious travel.
The unit operates without the need for flushing water, reducing resource use and minimising odour through waste separation. An optional active ventilation kit with a charcoal filter is available to further improve airflow and odour control by extracting air from the waste compartment to the outside of the vehicle.
With its compact design, ergonomic bowl, and blade cover to conceal waste, the S220CS is well-suited for RV manufacturers, self-builders, or anyone upgrading an existing C220 toilet. A selection of consumables - including cleaning sprays, odour control agents, and waste bags - are available to keep the system hygienic and efficient.
Before travelling, empty the urine tank or ensure it is no more than three-quarters full. A fuller tank can leak through the venting system while the vehicle is moving.
Separation toilets keep liquid and solid waste apart, so each section is emptied separately.
Urine waste should be emptied into a regular toilet, RV dump point, or approved toilet waste facility.
Solid waste is collected in a liner bag. Once sealed properly, it can generally be disposed of with general waste, where local rules allow. This is similar to other sealed hygiene waste such as nappies, incontinence products, sanitary waste, or dog waste bags.
Do not place waste bags in drop toilets, pit toilets, dump points, recycling, green waste, or compost bins.
When in doubt, check the local rules before disposal.
If the Thetford drying agent is unavailable, use a clean, dry, untreated carbon material such as natural sawdust, fine wood shavings, or untreated wood fibre animal bedding. These are commonly available from pet stores, hardware stores and garden centres.
This helps absorb moisture, cover the solids and reduce odour between emptying. Avoid scented, clumping, treated or fertilised products.
