The Breaksafe 6000 Breakaway System activates the electric brake system and brake lights of your caravan or trailer if it is accidentally separated from the tow vehicle (e.g. breakaway).
The battery compartment is easily accessible and features a fully enclosed circuit board case for better water resistance. The unit is water resistant, not waterproof: mount it internally where possible, or provide a rain and splash cover when mounted externally. Leave space for air circulation and battery access, and keep stored items clear of the test button.
The kit includes a 7Ah battery, coil cable breakaway switch, mounting hardware and installation instructions.
The Breaksafe battery recharges while driving through a connected 12V auxiliary line. Its internal charging circuit is a trickle charger, so a full recharge can take several hours. For external charging through the front red and black terminals, use a suitable battery charger rated at no more than 4A. Some smart chargers require direct connection to the battery terminals rather than the front charging terminals.
With the trailer plug disconnected from the tow vehicle, momentarily press the front test button to check the battery. Green indicates normal charge; red indicates low charge requiring charging before use. The button also activates the trailer brakes and brake lights. Do not use the breakaway system as a parking brake or security device: this will flatten the battery and release the brakes.
The separately sold RM6000 remote battery monitor fits inside the tow vehicle and checks the Breaksafe battery each time the brake pedal is pressed, providing a light and buzzer warning if the battery is low.
