Trojan Electric Breakaway Switch Suits Tekonsha Breakaway Systems

Description

Trojan version of the Tekonsha electric breakaway switch. Sets trailer brakes in case of accidental trailer breakaway. Trailer brakes are applied automatically.

The lanyard pulls the nylon pin out if the trailer separates from the tow vehicle, closing the switch to supply power from the trailer's breakaway battery to its electric brakes. This is the switch assembly, not a complete breakaway system; the battery is not supplied. For emergency use only, not as a parking brake.

Mount the switch with the cable towards the tow vehicle and an unobstructed line of pull. The switch must remain able to pivot. Attach the lanyard to the tow vehicle frame, not the towball or safety-chain loop, and keep it clear of the ground and restrictions. Disconnect the trailer's electrical plug from the tow vehicle before testing the breakaway circuit; leaving it connected can severely damage the electronic brake controller.

Our Comments

Once the breakaway switch is installed, you can test it by connecting the positive terminal of the battery to the connection to the blue wire for the brake circuit, i.e., bridge the switch. You can hear the electric solenoid on the wheels click.
