This standard friction sway controller is designed for use with a weight distribution system. It uses bonded friction material and a sliding bar to resist pivotal movement between the tow vehicle and trailer after sway begins. The handle switches the unit on or off, while a separate adjusting bolt sets the friction level for the trailer and towing conditions.
It connects between a small sway-control ball on the hitch head and the supplied ball-and-plate assembly on the trailer drawbar. The drawbar plate is secured with the six supplied self-tapping screws. If the hitch head does not already have a sway-control tab, the separately sold weld-on ball tab 26617 is required. Optional bolt-on fit kit 26661 can replace the screw-mounted drawbar plate on 3-6 inch A-frames, avoiding the need to drill the A-frame.
Do not use this controller on trailers with surge or hydraulic overrun brakes. Remove all tension when towing on wet, icy or loose surfaces. Check clearance before reversing sharply and remove the controller if the slide bar could bottom out or the unit could contact the tow vehicle. Grease the two mounting balls only; never lubricate the slide bar.
