Guide to Camper Trailer Wind-Up Systems

1. What this wind-up layout shows

The following photos and notes are here to help you understand the most common camper trailer wind-up system layout. This style has been used in many Jayco, Coromal, Windsor and Goldstream camper trailers, but individual models can vary.

Use this page as an identification guide before ordering parts or talking to a repairer. It is not a full repair instruction. If cables, pulleys, push rods or lift arms are damaged, under load, or difficult to identify, have the system checked by a camper trailer repairer.

2. Corner 1: front left, winch side

The winch is normally located in the front corner on the door side. The original example shows the winch at about 270mm high, with about 170mm needed across the base.

3. Corner 2: front right, harness plate and front tracks

Looking toward the front of the camper, the cables slope down to the offside. The original example notes a maximum of about 100mm height required at this corner.

The thick main cable comes from the winch and joins the four smaller corner cables at the harness plate. The two front floor tracks hold the push rods and an end of each cable.

4. Corner 3: rear right, lift arm and rear cable run

5. Corner 4: rear left and reversed layouts

This photo shows the rear of the camper with the floor track ending in the last corner.

The winch could also be located in this corner, with the system reversed. When comparing your camper to these photos, check the cable direction and winch position before assuming the layout is identical.

6. Before ordering wind-up parts

Camper trailer wind-up systems can vary by brand, model and layout. Before ordering parts, identify which corner you are working on, where the winch is mounted, how the cable is routed, and whether the part is a cable, pulley, push rod, floor track, corner bend or telescopic arm part.

• Compare your camper to the photos, but allow for reversed layouts.
• Check the exact corner and cable path before ordering.
• Do not cut or release cables under load unless you know the system is safely supported.
• If a lift arm, cable or pulley has failed, get repair advice before forcing the roof up or down.
