For BMW X1 installations using loom 100854-WL, the brake and tail-light circuit arrangement determines the choice: separate circuits require ECU 4, while a shared circuit requires 04838 instead. This is a specific loom application rule, not a claim that ECU 4 suits every BMW X1 or every vehicle with separate lighting circuits.
