Description

The Enerdrive Voltage Sensitive Relay (VSR) is a smart battery separator designed for dual battery systems typically found in caravans, boats, and campers. Using a microprocessor-controlled switch, it connects the batteries when charging voltage is available and separates them as voltage falls, helping preserve the starting battery for engine ignition. When either battery receiving charge reaches 13.2V (or 26.4V for 24V systems) for at least 7 seconds, the relay activates, connecting the batteries and allowing simultaneous charging. Once the voltage drops to 12.8V (or 25.6V) for at least 60 seconds, it disconnects.

The dual-sensing, bipolar switching function also allows charging of the starter battery from an external charger connected to the auxiliary battery, especially useful during extended stationary periods. The VSR can alternatively operate as a voltage-dependent switch, supplying connected equipment when the starter battery reaches the charging-voltage threshold. It responds to battery voltage rather than directly detecting whether the engine is running.

An optional start-help connection allows the auxiliary battery to assist engine starting when wired to the starter contact. High cranking currents, particularly from large diesel engines, can damage the relay; these applications require a higher-current switching contact. The unit also disconnects during overvoltage conditions to help protect the auxiliary battery and connected equipment.

The unit automatically detects 12V or 24V systems. It connects batteries directly rather than providing a regulated charging profile: it is not a substitute for a DC-DC charger when charging a lithium auxiliary battery.
