# Whale® Submersible and In-Line Booster Pumps Technical and Customer Service Manual
## Product Overview
Whale® offers a range of 12V d.c. and 24V d.c. submersible and in-line booster pumps designed for intermittent use in clean cold water applications. These pumps are suitable for a variety of installations, including being fully submerged in water (Submersible pumps) or installed in the pipeline between the water supply and the outlet (In-Line Booster pumps).
### Warranty
- 1-year warranty coverage.
- Exclusions apply as per the company's statement of limited warranty.
## Installation Instructions
### Submersible Pumps
1. **Connection**: Fit the required length of hose to the pump. For connection to Whale Semi-Rigid pipe systems, use Quick Connect fittings (Part No. WU1211 for 12mm pipe and WX1511B for 15mm pipe).
2. **Immersion**: Fully immerse the pump in the water tank.
3. **Power Supply**: Connect to an appropriate 12V or 24V power supply and switch.
4. **Operation Limit**: Do not exceed 15 minutes of continuous operation.
### In-Line Booster Pumps
1. **Installation Options**:
- Install below the water tank level to ensure gravity priming.
- Use in conjunction with a hand-operated or foot-operated pump, or to boost a submersible pump.
2. **Positioning**: Ensure the pump outlet is higher than the inlet. Install the pump in the suction pipe between the foot pump and the water tank.
3. **Sealing**: Ensure all hose connections are securely fastened to prevent air entry or water leaks.
### Additional Installation Notes
- Use ½" adaptors for 2" (13mm) hose connections. Note: Once fitted, the ½" adaptors cannot be removed.
- The In-Line Booster Pump can be submerged in water.
- For systems with a Whale In-Line Pressure Switch (WU7207), install an isolator switch to prevent accidental activation.
## Operation
### Submersible Pumps
- Ensure the pump is fully immersed and primed by shaking it to release trapped air. This is especially important after refilling the water tank.
### In-Line Booster Pumps
- Must be primed before use using a hand pump, foot pump, or by gravity.
- Check for full flow of water from the faucet to confirm priming.
- A non-return valve (FV1227) can be added to the suction pipe as an additional safeguard.
## Maintenance
- Inspect and clean strainers regularly (not applicable for in-line types).
- No further maintenance is required as these are sealed units.
- Winterizing: Drain the entire water system to prevent freeze damage.
## Troubleshooting and Helpful Hints
- Do not run the pump dry or in water above 60°C (140°F).
- Ensure the power supply matches the pump specification (12V or 24V).
- Check hose connections for air tightness.
- Ensure adequate ventilation in the water tank to prevent vacuum build-up.
- Verify correct polarity connection (brown to ‘+’ and blue to ‘-’).
## EC Declaration of Conformity
- Complies with EMC Directive 89/336/EEC and related amendments.
- Standards applied: EN60335-1:2002, EN60335-2-41:2003, EN55014-1:2000.
