CaravansPlus Deliveries = More Aussie Trees
Online shopping is more efficient in time and environmental resources than "bricks and mortar" stores, but we have made it even better!
CaravansPlus has started planting trees for all the deliveries we send out around Australia. The plan is to make up for any negative impacts that come from our link in the supply chain. We are doing this while keeping our prices and range the best in the country.
How is it Done?
CaravansPlus is donating money to "Carbon Positive Australia Charitable Fund" (CPA) which plants trees and restores farmland around Australia. Trees naturally remove carbon dioxide (CO2) from the air and help improve the land they are on.
We pay for Carbon Credits used in Australia. This means new trees are planted, looked after, and protected. We choose CPA because they concentrate on improving biodiversity not just maximum carbon reduction.
How Much Does it Cost?
Thanks to you, we have been growing and becoming more efficient as a business. This has allowed us to plant the trees without increasing our prices. It's a WIN-WIN for you and the environment.
How is it Calculated?
The Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) and Australia Post gives figures on how much pollution is generated from Delivery Vehicle Services.
On average our deliveries generate around 1.2kg of CO2 emissions each. We have chosen to offset 2.0kg of CO2 for every delivery we send. So it's actually even better than neutral - with every delivery we are offsetting MORE carbon emissions than are created! We hope this will help the planet with the emission reductions it needs.
Where Are The Trees?
Carbon Positive Australia Charitable Fund (CPA) has planted over 5.4 million trees across more than 3,812 hectares and 160 Australian sites since 2001. You can see CPA current projects here.
Why Do It?
The Climate Change debate is a sensitive topic around the world. Many of the questions center around what we can (or should) do about it, and where the costs will fall.
CaravansPlus is not trying to answer these questions for the world, we are just trying to make sure our own actions do not have a negative effect on other people. We think the cost on us is bearable and that's why we have chosen planting trees as our first step.

Good idea Steve. I am one of those who don't support the climate change situation, but planting trees is a great idea, especially to provide shade and trees for birds. Flowering ones are needed for bees.

Well done on this initiative! Can I add however that the amount of carbon emissions from pulling large heavy caravans with big vehicles over large distances will vastly override any offsets by caravsns plus. But the good news is that all of us travelling can make a difference and save money by; choosing smaller lighter more efficient vehicles and caravans, travelling slower makes a big difference, reducing our unnecessary travel and emissions in our daily lives, and offsetting our emissions through Carbon Neutral with some of the money we save! :-)

I am a happy customer of Caravans plus and am glad to see that you are doing your bit for the environment but can't help but feel that it may not really be a benefit to the planet as the manufacture of larger and larger caravans is a drain on World resources and the increase in the use of very large diesel 4 wheel drives can only pollute the planet more. Where have the days gone when caravans were of a sensible size and pulled by petrol-powered family cars.
