Solera® Classic Awning Arm Replacement Guide for Customer Service and Technical Staff

Overview

This guide provides detailed instructions for the removal and installation of the Solera® Classic Awning Arm, a critical component for RV awnings. It is designed to assist customer service and technical staff in guiding customers through the replacement process or for direct use by technicians performing the service.

Safety Precautions

Removal of the Arm

  1. Preparation: Extend the awning out approximately 1 ft.
  2. Cotter Pin Insertion: Align the hole in the end cap with the hole in the shaft from the head through the end cap. Insert a cotter pin through these aligned holes at each end of the awning.
  3. Support Arm Removal: Unscrew the support arm from the head on the awning roll tube. Ensure the roll tube is adequately supported before removing the support arm assembly to prevent injury or damage.
  4. Upper Mounting Bracket: Remove the 2 screws securing the upper mounting bracket to the sidewall of the coach.

Installation of the New Arm

  1. Lower Mounting Bracket: Secure the new support arm assembly in the lower mounting bracket.
  2. Upper Bracket Installation: Position the upper bracket over the awning rail in the same location as the old bracket. Apply sealant over the holes and attach the bracket using the provided ¼" x 3" lag screws.
  3. Support Arm Assembly: Slide the support arm assembly into the head assembly and secure it with the previously removed screw. Ensure the locking lever is in the roll-out position before removing the cotter pin.
  4. Cotter Pin Removal: Firmly grasp the pull strap on the awning fabric before removing the cotter pins to prevent the awning from retracting unexpectedly.

Installing the Stop Bolt

  1. Awning Retraction: Fully retract the awning.
  2. Level Adjustment: Ensure the roll tube's centerline is level with or slightly higher than the awning rail's centerline. The roll tube's bottom must not be higher than the awning rail.
  3. Support Arm Adjustment: If necessary, adjust the support arm by opening the handle and sliding the upper arm up or down. Close the handle and adjust the lower channel until the locking pin engages with the positioning hole.
  4. Stop Hole Positioning: Mark the position of the stop hole directly below the upper channel.
  5. Bolt Installation: From the inside of the channel, insert a "⁄#$” bolt and star washer through the marked hole. Secure with a "⁄#$” cap nut using a ½” socket and wrench. Repeat for the other support arm.
