SIMARINE SC303 & SC503 Digital Shunt User Guide for Customer Service and Technical Staff

Introduction

The SIMARINE SC303 and SC503 are high-precision active digital shunts designed for monitoring voltage, current, and temperature of batteries or battery banks. They are suitable for tracking the current draw of heavy consumers like inverters, bow and stern thrusters, anchor winches, and current generators such as shore power chargers and solar panels. Additionally, they can monitor tanks for fuel, fresh, and grey water. The SC303 and SC503 combine shunt and tank level module functionalities, offering a comprehensive solution for battery and tank monitoring.

Overview

Installation

Cables

Use the supplied SiCOM cable for connection. For lengths >= 5m, a 2 x 2 x 0.25 mm2 twisted pair cable is recommended.

Power Cable Specifications

Ensure the power cable has a minimum cross-section based on the continuous current and a maximum insulation temperature of 70°C (160°F):

Failure to observe these requirements may result in damage or fire.

Connecting the Shunt

  1. Disconnect the battery/battery bank terminals for safety.
  2. Connect the shunt to SIMARINE’s PICO via the SiCOM port.
  3. Attach the shunt voltage sensing input to a battery terminal.
  4. Connect the temperature sensor (optional) and place it near the battery/battery bank.
  5. Connect the battery/battery bank minus or plus terminal through the shunt's IN terminal.
  6. Connect all consumers and charging sources to the OUT terminal on the shunt.

Configuration is required for each connected shunt via PICO. Refer to PICO’s manual for detailed instructions.

Troubleshooting

Negative Current Values

If PICO displays incorrect current values, ensure the shunt is correctly installed with the battery/battery bank terminal connected to the IN terminal. If incorrect, reinstall the shunt or switch the IN and OUT terminals via PICO’s configuration.
