Installation Guidelines Overview
- Mount on a solid surface within 1.8 meters (6 feet) of the tank.
- Minimize flow restrictions and plumbing elbows and valves.
- Use flexible hose on inlet and outlet.
- Install a strainer on the pump inlet.
- Ensure plumbing is properly sized.
- No accumulator needed.
- Ensure wiring is properly sized and has proper electrical protection.
- Locate in an accessible location for occasional strainer cleaning and maintenance.
Detailed Installation Guidelines
- Mounting: Secure on a solid surface to prevent vibration and noise. Keep within 6 feet of the water storage tank for optimal performance. Ensure at least 1 cubic foot of space around the pump for adequate ventilation. The pump can be mounted in any orientation but should be easily accessible for maintenance.
- Plumbing: Must install a 50-mesh strainer before the pump inlet. Use at least 18 inches of ½” I.D. flexible high-pressure hose on both inlet and outlet ports. Reduce restrictions on the pump inlet and outlet.
- Electrical: Operate on an individual filtered circuit, protected by the specified fuse or breaker. A 15-Amp switch is recommended for the positive lead. Wire size should be a minimum of 16 GA, with 12 GA recommended for distances over 25 feet. The minimum power circuit requirement is 10 Amps. Shut off power when the RV is unattended.
Operation
Designed for intermittent duty only. Operates up to its rated by-pass pressure, then a by-pass valve opens for smooth flow. Performance varies with voltage: lower voltage = lower flow, higher voltage = higher flow. Always shut off power when leaving the RV unattended.
About the By-Pass
A spring-loaded diaphragm allows water from the discharge side back to the inlet side. For 55 psi models, the by-pass begins opening at around 40 psi and full by-pass occurs at about 62 psi. Adjustments to the switch or by-pass can affect pump shut-off. Warning: If full by-pass is reached before the shut-off setting, the pump will not shut off.
Maintenance
Regular checking and cleaning of the strainer, sanitizing, winterizing, and checking plumbing hardware and fittings for tightness are required. Lack of sanitizing can lead to scale build-up, causing low flow and potential pump cycling.
