GSL Remote Brake Controllers (RBC-12-NG & RBC-24-NG) - Technical and Customer Service Guide
Installation & Operating Instructions Overview
Introduction:
GSL's RBC series introduces a new generation of brake controllers that utilize microprocessor technology to deliver a pre-set braking force. Designed for both 12V and 24V systems, these controllers are compatible with single and dual axle trailers and operate on negative earth systems only. The controllers are noted for their ruggedness, compact design, and ease of installation, requiring just a simple four-wire connection and featuring a remote control for easy adjustment and monitoring of the brakes.
Key Features:
- LED indicator for brake connection and activation.
- Remote control with built-in LED for easy installation and adjustment.
- Remote can be mounted up to 1m away from the controller.
- Adjustable braking force.
- Compatible with single filament brake bulb systems.
- Maximum output capability of up to 2 axles / 12A Avg.
- Override function for independent trailer braking to prevent swaying.
- Installation possible at any angle.
Specifications:
Models: RBC-12-NG (12V systems) and RBC-24-NG (24V systems).
Minimum Input Voltage: 9 VDC (RBC-12-NG) / 18 VDC (RBC-24-NG).
Nominal Input Voltage: 12 VDC / 24 VDC.
Maximum Input Voltage: 15 VDC / 30 VDC.
No Current Load: 30 mA.
Maximum Load: 2 Axle / 12A Avg.
Dimensions: 30mm x 57mm x 90mm.

Installation Instructions:
- Disconnect the vehicle's NEGATIVE battery terminal.
- Choose a suitable mounting location inside the cabin.
- Mark and drill holes for the brake controller and the 8.5mm remote control shaft.
- Secure the controller with self-tapping screws and the remote control with the provided decal, washer, and retaining nut.
- Connect the brake wiring following the provided wiring diagram and instructions.
Wiring Diagram & Guide:
Fuse Requirements: 20A for RBC-12-NG, 15A for RBC-24-NG (external, not supplied).
Wire Connections:
- White Wire: Negative Battery.
- Blue Wire: Brake.
- Black Wire: Positive Battery (with fuse).
- Red Wire: Brake Switch.
Operation:
Setting Braking Force: Rotate the knob on the remote to adjust braking intensity.
Using Override Feature: Press the adjustment knob to activate. This applies trailer brakes independently of the vehicle brakes.
LED Status Indication:
Solid LED: Trailer connected and system operational.
Flashing LED: Active braking or override in use.
No LED: No power or trailer disconnected.
Troubleshooting:
Ensure proper grounding as a poorly grounded unit may operate intermittently or not at all.
Verify all connections are secure and correctly made.
Do not connect the "Battery" wire to the fuse panel or accessory wiring to avoid potential damage.
For RF interference issues, avoid using the vehicle chassis as a ground return path for the brake coils.
Warranty:
GSL offers a 2-year warranty from the date of original purchase, covering defects in material and workmanship under normal use and service.
Important Notes:
The RBC models are load activated and cannot be tested without load. The output voltage is pulsed and cannot be measured with a standard voltmeter or test light.
An external fuse must be fitted to the system; refer to the model-specific requirements for fuse size.
Ensure the red wire is connected to a source that receives DC voltage equal to the supply voltage when the brakes are on, avoiding connections to systems that share supply for rear and tail lights.
This guide is designed to provide comprehensive information for customer service and technical staff handling inquiries about the GSL Remote Brake Controllers RBC-12-NG and RBC-24-NG.
