Winegard Sensar HV Antenna Retrofit Kit Model CC-25HV - Technical and Customer Service Guide
Installation Instructions
Replacing a Winegard Sensar HV Antenna with the Sensar HV Retrofit Kit
1. Removing the Existing Antenna Assembly
- Cap and Coax Connection: Remove the cap from the coax connection port. Use a wrench to loosen and remove the 140 cm coax from the coax connection port.
- Pin and E-clip: Insert the pin through the leveling bracket and the elevating gear. Push the e-clip over the end of the pin. To remove, pull the e-clip off of the pin and remove the pin from the leveling bracket.
- Existing Antenna: Remove the existing antenna assembly from the mounting bracket.
2. Installing the Retrofit Antenna Assembly
- Coax Cable Preparation: If replacing the connector, cut the old connector off the end of the cable. Thread the 140 cm coax (or existing coax cable) between the boom and the center of the lower element housing in an S-curve pattern.
- Assembly Installation: Using the retrofit antenna assembly, insert the elevating gear between the sides of the leveling bracket, ensuring the elements are on top of the boom and the holes align.
- Coax Connection: Connect the coax to the coax connection port and tighten until fingertight, then tighten an additional ¼ turn.
Operating the Antenna
- Raising the Antenna: Turn the elevating crank clockwise in the “UP” direction about 13 turns or until resistance is noted.
- Turning on Power Supply: Activate the power supply to use the TV outlet. Note that the unit has a polyswitch that will shut down +12 VDC in case of a direct short, resetting once the short is eliminated.
- Rotating Antenna for Best Picture: Ensure the antenna is deployed. Pull down with both hands to disengage the ceiling plate and rotate for the best picture. For digital signals, run a channel scan.
- Lowering Antenna to Travel Position: Align the pointers on the directional handle and ceiling plate. Turn the elevating crank counterclockwise in the “DOWN” direction about 13 turns or until resistance is noted.
Installing Connector on Coax Cable
- Preparation: Strip the outer cover back 12 mm from the end of the cable, fray the braid back, and trim close to the outer cover. Remove 6 mm of inner insulation without nicking the center conductor.
- Installation: Slide the connector tip between the braid and inner insulation, pushing it as far as it will go. Attach the cable with a proper crimping or compression tool.
Do's and Don'ts
Do
- Check for obstructions before raising the antenna.
- Carefully raise, lower, and rotate the antenna, checking for obstructions if having trouble.
- Rotate slowly when selecting a station and fine-tune on the TV.
- Lower the antenna to the travel position before moving the vehicle.
Don't
- Force the elevating crank or rotate the directional handle hard against stops.
- Travel with the antenna in the up/deployed position. Stow before traveling or when wind speeds reach +113 km/h.
- Leave the antenna partially deployed.
- Apply sealant over the top of the base plate.
Troubleshooting
- No Signal: Ensure the power supply is turned on and check for any obstructions. If the issue persists, verify the coax connections and perform a channel scan for digital signals.
- Weak Signal: Rotate the antenna slowly to find the best signal. For persistent issues, check for environmental obstructions or consider the antenna's height relative to the surrounding terrain.
