Raising roller on A & E Awnings.

There are times when fitting A&E awnings where the roller will not sit high enough to clear a light or door. This happens when the rafters hit the bottom of the leg, when folded up. This can be rectified by cutting one or both of the inner and outer rafters.

NOTE: There is a limit to how much can be cut off - and still use the full width of the rolled out awning. Cut off only the amount you need to.

Step 1) With the inner rafter still in place, undo the black knob all the way. It is done while in place, as the thread on the nut is compressed at the end and will just turn if not trapped by the inner rafter.

Step 2) Lay inner rafter next to outer rafter to ensure the overlap is sufficient to provide the added height. eg. If the roller needs to extend up 50mm, then you can cut off 50mm off just the outer rafter. This will have the effect of allowing the inner rafter to slide 50mm further into the outer rafter - thus allowing the roller to sit up 50mm higher that was previously possible.

If there is not sufficient overlap, eg if there is only 25mm overlap, then the difference will also need to come off the inner rafter. So still take 50mm off outer and take 25mm off inner.

The above photo shows where 75mm is to be cut off the outer rafter. Redrill the hole for the Black knob and nut at the length required. Cut this amount off the outer rafter also. (Please note that cutting off more than you need will reduce the effective width of your awning)

Dometic awnings are already wider than most other brands.
